Sprint CUP by Funyo : Xavier Fouineau, untouchable in Lédenon

This weekend, the Lédenon circuit hosted the very first meeting of the 2024 season of the Sprint CUP by Funyo. As part of the FFSA French Circuit Championship, the Funyo paddock enjoyed a sunny Ascension celebration.

From the very first practice sessions, it was clear that the competition would be tough this season, with a high level of performance and tight lap times.

During qualifying, Xavier Fouineau (HMC Racing) asserted his dominance by winning both pole positions and all four races of the weekend, while his teammate Jérémy Siffert consistently stayed in his wake, finishing on all the podiums. Romain Boeckler (Loire Valley Racing) also made an impression by securing two podiums and setting a new lap record with a time of 1:21.346. The last two races provided an opportunity for Hugo Roueche (L’Écurie Française) and Nicolas Robin (Dafa Racing) to shine on the podium for the first time.

The competition was particularly lively in the new Challengers category, with the Robin family dominating—Nicolas taking two victories and Jean-Christophe one, while the last race went to Dekel Samuel Naar (Loire Valley Racing). Fabien Bornancin (Kairos Racing) and Éric Soares (HMC Racing) also secured podium finishes, while Edoardo Elia (L’Écurie Française) and Brian Ruffino (Spirit of Patrick Bouazis Still Racing) narrowly missed the podium several times.

In the Gentlemen category, consistency was key, highlighted by the impressive return of Cédric Gardin (HMC Racing), who clinched four victories, and Pascal Lecomte (Loire Valley Racing), who had an impressive start to the season with four second-place finishes. Rémy Brouard (HMC Racing) took four third-place finishes. These results only partially reflect the intensity of the battles on track, where the margins were minimal. The upcoming races also promise remarkable performances from Jean-Claude Rolland (HMC Racing) and Elio Livia (L’Écurie Française).

In the Espoirs category, filled with ambitious young talents, Romain Boeckler secured two podiums, while Jérémy Siffert and Hugo Roueche shared the victories and second places in this category. Sean Canivet (L’Écurie Française) finished on the third step of the podium twice during races 3 and 4 on Sunday.

A special mention goes to this highly competitive category featuring talented young drivers.

The second meeting of the season is fast approaching. Mark your calendars for May 24, 25, and 26 at the prestigious Paul Ricard circuit as part of the FFSA – French Truck Championship.
